Oprah’s Toxic Reminder

Earlier this week, we received an excellent reminder of the detriments and hypocrisies of the #MeToo movement.

On January 7, public icon Oprah Winfrey gave a speech that has now gone viral at the Golden Globes awards ceremony. In her “inspirational” discourse, Oprah regaled the audience with the story of a young woman named Recy Taylor and congratulated all of the women brave enough to condemn their male oppressors and abusers. But the especially notable part of her monologue was the following statement: “And it’s here with every woman who chooses to say ‘me too’ and every man, every man who chooses to listen.” This little, unornate statement pales in comparison to the glorious tales and autobiography that comprised the rest of the performance. However, this little statement contains a very, very significant message.

This statement is seen and praised by many as “one step forward for women’s rights.” So, let’s unpack this statement and see if it actually leads us toward “gender equality.”

Both the structure and content of the statement segregate women and men. After creating a gender schism, Oprah labels women as courageous victims and men as impulse-driven oppressors. With one caveat, though, she graces all males by saying that they have the capability to listen. Men should feel empowered and encouraged by Oprah, right? NO! We don’t even know what the word for this is, we hate men so much. This is misandry in its most inconspicuous state. For those of you who are unaware of the meaning of misandry (probably most of you), it is the opposite of misogyny and means hatred of men.

Firstly, Oprah entirely ignores the struggle of male victims of sexual assault. Oprah, did you know that one in ten rape victims is male? To use a word the Left has adopted as its own, the marginalization of these genuine victims by anyone, let alone an individual so inexplicably famous (please let me know if you actually know why Oprah is famous), changes something. The movement is no longer altruistically driven but serves an agenda. This agenda happens to be the perpetuation of the victimhood mentality of women and the demonization of men. Male guilt is a Leftist attempt to enforce its way of thinking.

Don’t let it work.
